I’m Old School

There’s a stretch of Canal Street, between Lafayette and 6th Avenue, heaving with affable Chinese men and women peddling fake Jewelry and Designer Bags.

Who on Earth, I wonder, looks at the stuff and says: “Wow, this is a REAL Dolce & Gabbana!”?

Well, it turns out the only real thing they sell is Perfume, at roughly half of the shelf price.

I actually found a small stock of this wonderful Italian Fragrance called PINO SILVESTRE. I had discovered this in Rome a while back.

It reminds me of my idea of the Technicolor Fifties…Some fragrance Jimmy Stewart or Cary Grant might have worn, on their way to Lunch on Hyperion and Sunset with Kim Novak or Eva Marie Saint.

The salesman was actually not Chinese, but very much a New Yorker…He was surprised I picked this out.

“It’s a nice fragrance, this one”, he said. “It’s old school”.
